Institute of Pharmacy at Nirma University and Indian Pharmacological Society (IPS) jointly organized an International e-conference on theme of “Emerging Opportunities and Challenges in Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Sciences for Drug Discovery and Healthcare Innovations” during February 17-19, 2022. Prof. Michael Spedding Secretary General IUPHAR and President, Spedding Research Solutions SAS, France and Shri K. K. Patel,Vice President, Nirma University inaugurated this three day conference.
Pharmaceutical innovation is a creative process that helps in the application of knowledge and creativity for discovering and developing new medicinal products that generate improvement in patient health. Interdisciplinary research integrates information, concepts and theories of two or more different specialized disciplines for better scientific understanding and solving of complex challenging problems.
Prof. Michael Spedding, Secretary General of IUPHAR provided insights related to IUPHAR and World Health, Databases for drug research, Natural Products and Pharmacology. Dr. Christoph Thiemermann, London, UK shared his views on drug discovery and translation in an academic settings. The distinguished speakers from different corners of world interacted and had deliberations on new targets for treatment of cerebral stroke and cataract, cancer, innovations in COVID times, Nanotoxicology and nanotechnology, marine bioactives, role of plasma technology in medical science etc.
On the second day of conference, various topics like radiopharmaceuticals, neurologic music therapy, cognition therapeutics, treatment of post-operative pain, diabetes treatment, antimicrobial resistance, targeted drug delivery approach and regulatory guidelines for market approval were discussed.
On the third day of conference, Dr. Devendra Agrawal from Western University of Health Science, USA have shared his views on potential treatment strategies to enhance healing response and Dr. Ramesh Goyal, Vice chancellor of DIPSAR, New Delhi have discussed 21 revolutions of 21st century in pharmaceutical sciences. Also session like drug development of autism spectrum disorders, drug resistant epilepsy, nose to brain drug delivery were discussed with the panel.
Dr. Ingolf Cascorbi, President, International Union of Basic & Clinical Pharmacology (IUPHAR), Germany and Dr. Anup Singh, Director General of Nirma University graced the valedictory function. Dr. Manjunath Ghate, Director, Institute of Pharmacy and convener of the conference informed that the three days International e-conference had more than 35 speakers and 300+ participants and exchanged their views and experiences through online sessions. Dr. Jigna Shah, the organized secretary of the NIPiCON-IPS 2022 conference informed that such programmes will definitely enhance the interdisciplinary research and innovation spirit of the students and research fraternity in the times to come.
