The students of the Institute of Pharmacy are actively involved in various curricular, co-curricular, extracurricular and research activities.
Doctoral students have received various fellowships like Prime Minister’s Fellowship, Women Scientist fellowship, SRF, JRF and INSPIRE fellowship from various government funding agencies, like ICMR, GSBTM, SERB-DST, DBT, CSIR, etc. Many research scholars have presented their research posters at various International Conferences held in the UK, USA, Austria, Thailand, etc. Few of the graduate, postgraduate and doctoral students did their research training/summer internship at foreign universities like the University of South Australia, Harvard Stem Cell Institute, Harvard University and the University of North Carolina.
Most postgraduate students have been awarded the best MPharm Thesis Award by Rajnibhai V Patel Trust – sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology and Troikaa Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
The students are also outperforming in various national and state level quiz competitions, debates, cultural fests, essay writing competitions, drama and singing events, sports, etc. and securing prizes many times. Prizes were also fetched in Swimming Competition at Khel-Mahakumbh, Gujarat.

Under the auspices of the Undergraduate Research Council (UGRC) at the Institute of Pharmacy, Nirma University, a pioneering endeavor has been undertaken to foster research among undergraduate students. In line with this mission, the inaugural Pill Pitch Challenge 2024 was organized on March 27, 2024. This competition was designed to address the fundamental aspect of research: the formulation of innovative research or start-up concepts. Dr. Bhagawati Saxena, Event Coordinator and UGRC member, along with Dr. Bhumika Patel, UGRC Coordinator, extended invitations to aspiring participants.
A total of 16 teams enthusiastically participated in the competition, presenting their ideas across five research scopes: Wet Lab-based, Marketing/Survey-based, Prototype/Model Making, Start-up Ventures, and App Development. Each team showcased their ideas with commendable proficiency.
The esteemed Dr. Iti Gupta, Associate Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar, graciously consented to serve as the expert evaluator for the student pitches. The winning teams have been granted seed funding to materialize their innovative ideas into practical ventures. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the winners and express our gratitude to the participants, evaluators, and organizers for making the Pill Pitch Challenge 2024 a resounding success. This initiative stands as a testament to our commitment to nurturing a culture of research and innovation among our undergraduate community.
Our student, Manmohan Sharma (21FTPHDP77) was awarded 1st prize for scientific poster presentation on the topic “3D-QSAR Studies, Molecular Docking, Molecular Dynamic Simulation, and ADMET Proprieties of Novel PfDHODH Enzyme as PfDHODH Inhibitors for the Treatment of Malaria” at 28th ISCB International Conference (ISCBC-2024), which was based on the theme “Recent advances in Biological, Chemical, Biotechnological, and Pharmaceutical Sciences for Innovation in Healthcare” jointly organized by the Indian Society of Chemists & Biologists (IscB), Faculty of Science, and Faculty of Pharmacy, Marwadi University, Rajkot, Gujarat, India, held on January 8-10, 2024.
Ph.D. student Ms. Ritu Soni secured first place in poster presentation competition in Pharmacology category at International conference on “The future of Pharmaceutical drug development: trends, challenges and opportunities” organized by L.J. Institute of Pharmacy, L.J. University, Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
Ms. Raveena Udhani, PhD scholar in the Pharmaceutical Analysis Department under the guidance of Dr. Charmy Kothari, has participated in a 3-days Workshop & Hands-on Training program on Paper-based Microfluidics and Lateral Flow Devices, organized by NIPER Hyderabad on July 3-5, 2023 and got the runner-up prize for her novel idea pitch in the Ideathon competition.
Dr. Dhara Bhayani received best Ph.D. thesis award 2020 in the Pharmaceutical Science category from Gujarat Science Academy for her PhD dissertation work entitled, ‘ Effect of ionizing radiation on the stability of selected drugs and their formulations. She has completed her PhD under the guidance of Dr Priti Mehta, Professor and head, of the Department of Pharm Analysis of the Institute of Pharmacy. The award was conferred on June 17, 2023 at Gujarat University.
Our B.Pharm students, Ms. Niyati Parekh (19BPH080), Sarthak Lakhani (19BPH094), Ayushi Patel (19BPH016), Dhyanesh Oza (19BPH036), and Ph.D student, Ms. Ruchi Yadav (20FTPHDP62) published a research article entitled “Discovery of novel CaMK-II inhibitor for the possible mitigation of arrhythmia through pharmacophore modelling, virtual screening, molecular docking, and toxicity prediction” under the guidance of Dr. Bhumika Patel, and Dr. Udit Chaube in the journal ‘Artificial Intelligence Chemistry’, Elsevier Publications.
Our M.Pharm student, Maiti Ritwik published an article in the journal “Archives of Pharmacal Research” with an impact factor of 6.7. Vishal K Chavda, PhD Research Scholar, Department of Pharmacology, Institute of Pharmacy, Nirma University has received FENS (Federation of European Neuroscience Societies) Grant Award and FENS Voucher Programmer Grant award in FENS 2020 Virtual Forum held on from 11th July-15th July, 2020. He has presented a online research poster and oral talk on his PhD Research entitled, “Neurotrophic and cerebroprotective effects of sexagliptin and voglibose: “In-silico to in-vivo animalinvestigational approach” at FENS virtual forum. FENS 2020 was jointly organized with British Neuroscience Association (BNA) at Glasgow, UK.

Mr. Omkar Sherikar under the guidance of Prof. Priti J. Mehta presented a research paper at the international conference, Analytical research Forum 2012, held on July 2-4, 2012 at Durham University, United Kingdom. The Conference was organized by ‘Royal Society of Chemistry’, United Kingdom. He received full International Travel Support including visa fees and registration fees from Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India for the same.

On March 27th, 2024, NSS Unit, Institute of Technology, Nirma University, arranged the dynamic drama competition “Vimukti” that aimed at raising awareness against addiction. The event witnessed spirited performances by various Nirma University teams, showcasing a spectrum of narratives ranging from emotional dramas to light-hearted comedies.
The competition concluded with the NSS Unit; Institute of Pharmacy team emerging victorious. The winning team, “The Pharmacist,” gave a riveting presentation stressing the dual nature of addiction by emphasizing the medical benefits of substances like alcohol as well as their dangerous effects when overused. Their performance delivered a touching message to the youth, advocating against drug usage with the powerful mantra “we will not take it, we will not allow it.”
The Nirmaquest’24 (An arena of state level quiz competition for pharmacy and other disciplines) was held on March 19, 2024 for the students of Pharmacy, and other disciplines organized by the Institute of Pharmacy, Nirma University. From captivating competitions to insightful workshops, Nirmaquest’24 was an incredible journey filled with learning, innovation, and endless possibilities. The hard work, and dedication was displayed by student volunteers and faculty members. Total 47 teams from various Institutions of Gujarat registered enthusiastically in the event. Dr. Milan Satia, President and CEO, Ethicare Clinical Trial Services, Ahmedabad graced the prize distribution ceremony as the chief guest.
Institute of Pharmacy, Nirma University organized an inter University sports tournament entitled as, NIRMACUP-2024 during under the aegis of Student’s Welfare Board. The event featured various sports activities for both male and female students, including volleyball, chess and table tennis catering to diverse interests and abilities. More than 220 participants attended the events from more than 22 different universities in Gujarat state.
B Pharm students, Mr. Ronil Patel (20BPH084) and Ms. Vanshika Dave (20BPH107) have secured the first position and M Pharm student, Ms. Gargi Vaghela (22MPH803) has secured 2nd position in the “Digital Anti-Ragging Poster Making Competition” organized by Institute of Pharmacy, Nirma University, Ahmedabad on August 18, 2023.
