Indian Society has a rich diversity in terms of religion, caste and culture which is characterized by social division and this may lead to inequalities and create barriers to access the important resources to the disadvantaged section of the society. These sections especially include the Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribes, other backward classes, women, minorities, and differently abled persons.
To cater to these groups, an Equal Opportunity Cell is set up under the aegis of Nirma University to make the education system inclusive and responsive to their needs and constraints.
The main objective of Equal Opportunity Cell is to identify the issues amongst the disadvantaged sections on the campus and provide an enabling and non-discriminative environment for them, and to ensure equality and equal opportunities to them through proper implementation of inclusive policies and programmes.
For the smooth functioning of the Cell, an Advisory Committee is constituted, which is headed by the Director General and constitutes other members including, Executive Registrar, All Heads of Institutes, Students Welfare Board, and Chief Coordinator of Students Welfare Board.
Among the varied functions carried out by the Advisory Committee, one of their prime function is to review the grievance received and action taken by the concerned Institute level committee as per the mechanism developed to deal with such grievance/s.
