We are proud to share that Dr. Priti J. Mehta, Professor, Department of Pharmaceutical Analysis, Institute of Pharmacy, Nirma University, visited the NASA Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, California, USA, under the Short-Term Indian Council of Medical Research–Department of Health Research International Fellowship from 16 February to 6 March 2026.
During the visit, her research focused on “Studying altered microbial behaviour in simulated spaceflight conditions leading to antibiotic resistance,” with the objective of understanding microbial adaptation in extreme environments.
She engaged with scientists from the Space Biosciences Division, observed ongoing research activities, and gained insights into how biological experiments are designed to support space missions. The visit included laboratory tours and interdisciplinary discussions integrating biology, engineering, and space sciences.
This milestone represents an important step in the Institute’s emerging initiatives in space medicine and microgravity research, particularly in understanding how pharmaceutical systems behave in space environments. Such efforts contribute to advancing research aligned with India’s growing space science ecosystem.
We remain committed to pioneering research that advances healthcare innovation for Earth and beyond.
