Alumni Expert Lecture on Pharmacist’s Role in Prescription Handling

The Institute of Pharmacy, Nirma University, hosted a captivating Online Alumni Expert Lecture on February 25, 2024. The esteemed speaker, Ms. Dhvani Thakkar, a Clinical Pharmacist at Saskatchewan Health Authority, Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, shared invaluable insights on “Pharmacist’s Role in Prescription Handling: Canadian Pharmacy Perspective”.

Ms. Dhvani’s presentation was illuminating, delving into key aspects such as maintaining patient profiles, conducting clinical profile reviews, managing drug interactions and allergies, offering counseling and patient education, and providing over-the-counter recommendations.

A significant portion of the lecture focused on the intricacies of prescription processing, including data entry into software systems, medication dispensation, and ensuring accurate labeling with appropriate warning and auxiliary labels. She also elucidated the diverse responsibilities within pharmacy settings, spanning from interns to managers.

Furthermore, Ms. Dhvani shed light on additional roles pharmacists undertake in Canada, including professional services such as injection administration, immunization, chronic disease management, and prescribing for minor ailments.
