We are happy to share the remarkable achievement of the students from the Institute of Pharmacy, Nirma University, who triumphed at Biothon 2025, organized by Gujarat Biotechnology University (GBU) on January 20, 2025.
Our student team—Ms. Aditi Gupta, Ms. Aabir Pramanik, Ms. Dhruvi Buvaria, and Ms. Hitvankshi Patel—along with their mentor, Dr. Niyati Acharya, won the prestigious Best Innovation Idea under the Rising Startup Idea Award category for their ground breaking concept.
Their innovative project focuses on the metabolic engineering of microalgae to sustainably produce high-value nutraceuticals and vegan proteins. The team proposed a novel method to enhance protein extraction by engineering microalgae strains with weakened cell walls, boosting both protein and lipid production.
This exceptional idea stood out among entries from leading institutions across Ahmedabad, earning accolades for its originality, feasibility, innovation, and potential market impact. The team’s visionary approach perfectly reflects Nirma University’s commitment to fostering innovation and research excellence.
